The power of thank you

Weekly HIGHs & LOWs session with your team is the ultimate moment to share your thank you. Weeks are busy. Some say thank you, some forget. However, a little kindness and appreciation go a long way.

Thank each other during the week, as much as possible. When your team gets things done, don’t take it for granted and think, « oh, they are just doing their job » instead, thank them. When your manager supports you, thank him. Let kindness become your alter ego; it won’t make you soft; it will make you more attractive to work for. Sometimes people still feel undervalued even if we are thanking them often. During the rush moments when our brain is on something, we half hear what we are told. This is why I profit from the HIGHs & LOWs meeting to thank my team at the end of the week, loudly, underlining their personal added value.

In larger teams, team members often miss the achievements of their colleagues. Therefore they might not show appreciation for each other’s work. Why lose such a source of positivity? When the group feels better, more proud of each other – suddenly, you create growth energy. The group starts feeling competent, invincible, and lucky to be together.

Celebration of group’s achievements, small or big, also shifts the attention from mistakes to wins. The celebration also makes mistakes acceptable. The team dares more. Innovation is more likely to happen.

As a manager, thank your team more. As a team, thank your manager more. How about doubling the number of thank you in a week? Let HIGHs & LOWs be facilitator to that.
