You won’t be able to make it. You don’t have what it takes. You can’t be that. You won’t fit in. You don’t have a chance. You can’t promote. You won’t succeed. You don’t cut it. You can’t understand.
Won’t, don’t, and can’t are among the most generously used business vocabulary. I had my share of them as well. 95% of the time, life proved to the person who told me you won’t, you don’t, and you can’t wrong. 5% of the time, they were correct: I wouldn’t, I didn’t, or I couldn’t, and it turned out to be a blessing.
What other people tell you has very little relevance. How you react in the face of difficulties, rejections and ambiguities make all the difference.
Next time, don’t listen to the little voices around you. Listen to the inner voice that comes from within.
When it comes to your career management, no is not a complete sentence. No can be the door to something unexpected. No can lead you forward and accelerate your becoming.
Having been rejected can also be a blessing. Next time when you hear won’t, don’t, and can’t, instead of accepting and personalizing it – ask questions. Try to understand what people are trying to say. What can you take from it to enrich your growth? And then it’s up to you. It has always been. And it will always be.
A clear rejection is better than a fake promise.
