Being a leader is tough. When I first got promoted to manager, I was star-struck with the title. It felt like I made it. Little did I know that I was at the beginning of a leadership hustle that would last for years.
There is no secret recipe to leadership. Different moments call for different actions. Different teams call for different styles. No one size fits all. There are no shortcuts. It is pure hard work, a continuous attempt for self-awareness, and relentless generosity with empathy.
Not every manager is a leader, but every team with a manager longs for a leader. There are lots of books on how to become a leader. Unfortunately, even when you read good leadership books, it is tough to become one. It is challenging to act like a leader when things are tough. There are many highs and lows of leadership that I witnessed through 20 years of my career, either in person or around me. This blog is a collection of harsh realities. It is the mirror of real moments of sometimes pride, sometimes awkwardness. It is a call for action with easy tips available to the masses.
In the bottom line, you feel like a leader when you care. This blog is to those who care to make a positive contribution in the business world as much as in the human factor around.
If you aspire to be a leader, there will be highs and lows. There will be wins and losses. There will be regrets and wishes. This blog exists to help make the positive side longer.
“If you want to make everyone happy, don’t be a leader, sell ice cream.”
