Level Up, Look Up, Lift Up

The most forgotten yet important word in the leader’s dictionary is “UP”.

A good leader levels up; the business, the company, the products, the services, and the people. His job is not about protecting the status quo, but about seizing opportunities. He levels up naturally, intrinsically, and purposefully.

He does this by looking up, looking up to the light when problems arise, and looking up to the future when complexities surround him. When he looks up, his chin lifts, his posture changes and it contagiously touches everyone around him. He listens beyond hearing the meaning of the silence, he sees beyond realizing the signals, he senses the danger, the resistance, and the fear yet he embraces every obstacle as a chance to lift his team.

A good leader lifts everyone and everything that he touches. His presence is sought for, acting as an attractive light. He takes the time to invest in the seeds of people, leaving a legacy of newcomers that follows and exceeds his vision.

A leader without the word “UP” is just a manager, so common and so uninspiring that he only manages what needs to get done at best.

“Heroes are heroes because they are heroic in behavior, not because they won or lost.”

Nassim Nicholas Taleb
