Longevity in a Career

Some chase happiness in a career and it seems like a dream that is impossible to catch. The more one runs for it, the farther it seems to get.

Joseph Campbell once said « Find a place inside where there’s joy, and the joy will burn out the pain. » There could be joy in everything, and if not joy, there could be purpose. Anyone who read Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktore E. Frankl would agree instantly.

In the age of delivery on demand, one push to get anything anytime anywhere, we start to lose the sense of sticking to our objectives, working hard for them with resilience, and believing that the journey accounts for more than the result.

This is what longevity in a career means, sticking around long enough, trying your best, and writing a legacy even if it means hardship, falling and rising again, and countless trials. It might not be all roses all the time, but in the end, this is what builds self-confidence.

« When you’re in the habit of keeping promises you make with yourself, you’re on the pathway to self‐confidence. »

Ed Mylett

When we set objectives and keep delivering even in tough conditions, our brain builds muscles. We become self-confident, not because we were born with it, but because we prove it to ourselves with every action we take.

Longevity in a career, whether in a corporate or entrepreneurial environment, is never about the company. It is about your becoming. With the right mindset, one can grow anywhere and under any condition. Like orchids that grow in pebbles.

« Only those who have learned the power of sincere and selfless contribution experience life’s deepest joy: true fulfillment. »

Tony Robbins
